It’s a real disappointment when you start to make a recipe and you realize you don’t have any brown sugar on hand. Right?! Well, rest assure friends because today I’ll show you how quick and easy it is to make light or dark brown sugar. With just a minute of your time and a fork or whisk to stir, you’ll have yourself some fresh homemade brown sugar. When I was a baker at Baxter’s restaurant, many times I would go to use the brown sugar and it would be as hard as a rock, ugh! So, I would have to make my own brown sugar and today I’ll show you this handy little baking tip.
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1-2 tablespoon(s) molasses
- Place both ingredients in a bowl.
- With a fork or whisk, press down and mash the ingredients together until well blended.
For dark brown sugar use 2 tablespoons of molasses per cup of granulated sugar.
Spray your tablespoon before measuring the sticky molasses, this will help it to slid right out.
Always store brown sugar in an airtight container and in a cool place.
If your brown sugar becomes hard, add a slice of bread and wait a few hours or overnight before using it. The slice of bread will add moisture to the brown sugar, making it soft and pliable again.
