This is us – John and Heather. We moved to sunny Florida in the fall of 2014 and we absolutely love it! John is the spicy one and a huge contributor to our delicious savory recipes. And, I am the sweet one, a long time baker and the one that contributes most of the amazing desserts on this blog.
Both of our Moms were amazing cooks and bakers. So, we share lots of their family-favorite meals and incredible desserts, that will take you back to your childhood and give you a big warm hug!
This is our daughter, Chelsea’s family from left to right: Kenny (son-in-law), Laila (Granddaughter), Chelsea and their little foster girl. They are truly blessed to have each other and 2 beautiful girls to love and care for. Kenny is a music and media pastor. Chelsea has a beautiful voice and assists Kenny’s ministry, they make a great team!
Here’s our son, Andy and his new wife, Jessica. They are blessed to have each other as well, and are the cutest loving couple. Andy was also in the ministry for 10 years and has been to Thailand several times to work with churches and orphanages there. He recently started a new job that has a lot of potential. Jessica is an excellent hair stylist and works at a beautiful high-end salon.
My name is Heather Carter and I’m the author and creator of My Sweet Mission. I’m a Christian woman who has been married for 35 years in June. My husband, John is an excellent cook and is one of the main contributors, as mentioned above. Some of my top posts were created by him and he continues to deliver incredibly delicious savory dishes all the time!
I have a few passions in life, but 2 very important ones are baking and missions. Thus the name for my blog, My Sweet Mission. I started this blog the beginning of August 2012, because I love to bake & cook and everyone was always asking me for my recipes, especially my famous gourmet cookies. I’ve loved to bake since I was a little girl and I got that love from my Mom and both of my Grandmothers. There’s nothing better then seeing my family and friend’s faces and hearing their comments, when they bite into one of my delicious desserts, it’s so rewarding! I was also the baker at our church’s restaurant called Baxter’s for 2 years, where I bake dozens of gourmet cookies, bars, muffins, quick breads and brownies each week.
We also love to cook and share some of our family’s favorite savory recipes, that have been past down from generation to generation. We have a passion for developing new recipes as well, but we promise we’ll only share the ones that have been tested, tried and absolutely delicious!
My love for missions started in 1998 when I went on my first mission trip to Eastern Europe with our daughter Chelsea, who was 14 years old at the time. We went with a small group of people and saw God move in beautiful ways. I remember one time at a large outdoor outreach when almost every hand was raised to receive Jesus as their Savior, it was amazing!
My husband and I worked with Hope International Ministries (HIM) for several years at the Michigan warehouse, sorting and inventorying the items donated to HIM. John and I have also gone to the Dominican Republic with HIM several times, where John & I organized and lead the gift room. Talk about a thrill! When you give someone a toothbrush for the first time, or a pair of flip flops for their dirty and worn feet – it is priceless!!!
The summer of 2013 John and I went to Bangkok, Thailand with our son, Andy and a team from his church. While there we ministered to the people in the slum communities of Bangkok, working with the local churches. It was an amazing trip and many lives were touched as well.
In 2012 my husband and I served a year as the global mission directors at Metro City Church. It is a relevant church, and they are passionate about helping people grow in their faith and reaching the lost for Christ.
On My Sweet Mission we share only our tried & true family-style delicious recipes. Along with helpful kitchen tips, food gift ideas, posts for helping people in need and so much more. So, make sure to stop by as often as you can.
