About Me & My Family
My name is Heather Carter and I’m the author and creator of My Sweet Mission. I’m a Christian woman who has been married for over 33 years, to John. Yes, John Carter would be his name! Lucky me, well it’s not the actor, but still lucky me! John is an excellent cook and he is one of my main contributors, as mentioned above. Some of my top posts were created by him and he continues to deliver incredibly delicious savory dishes all the time. So, a big thank you to John!!
We have 2 children, our daughter Chelsea and our son Andy. Chelsea has been married to Kenny for 5 years this March 2016. Kenny is a music/media pastor. Chelsea has a beautiful voice and assists Kenny with different music specials throughout the year. Our son, Andy was in the ministry but recently started a new job that has lots of potential. Andy loves missions and has traveled to Thailand to work with the churches and orphanages in small villages.
I have a few passions in life, but 2 very important ones are baking and missions. Thus the name for my blog, My Sweet Mission. I started this blog in July 2012 because I love to bake & cook and everyone was always asking me for my recipes, especially my famous gourmet cookies. I’ve loved to bake since I was a little girl and I got that love from my Mom and both of my Grandmothers. There’s nothing better then seeing my family and friend’s faces and hearing their comments, when they bite into one of my delicious desserts, it’s such a reward! I’ve also been the baker at our church’s restaurant called Baxter’s for about 2 years now, where I bake dozens of gourmet cookies, bars, muffins and brownies each week.
I also love to cook and share some of our family’s favorite savory recipes, that have been past down from generation to generation. I have a passion for developing new recipes as well, but I promise I will only share the ones that have been tested, tried and absolutely delicious.
My love for missions started back in 1998 when I went on my first mission trip to Eastern Europe with our daughter Chelsea, who was about 14 years old at the time. We went with about 25 people and saw God move in beautiful ways. I remember one time at a large outdoor outreach when almost every hand was raised to receive Jesus as their Savior, that was amazing!
My husband and I worked with Hope International Ministries the past few years at the Michigan warehouse, sorting and inventorying the items Hope receives. John and I have also gone to the Dominican Republic with Hope a few times, where John & I help organize and lead the gift room. Talk about a thrill! When you hand someone a toothbrush for the first time or give them a pair of flip flops for their dirty and worn feet – it is priceless!!! While in the Dominican Republic, Hope International Ministries facilitates medical clinics on the north shore, where they medically treat over 3,000 people in a five day period every June.
The summer of 2013 John and I went to Bangkok, Thailand with our son, Andy and a team from his church. While there we ministered to the people in the slum communities of Bangkok, working with the local churches. It was an amazing trip and many lives were touched as well.
In 2012 my husband and I served a year as the global mission directors at Metro City Church. It is a relevant church, and they are passionate about helping people grow in their faith and reaching the lost for Christ.
The next time you drop by, please leave me a comment, a question or a baking tip, I would love to read it!
